Since I embarked on my campaign for Elmbrook School Board, I have been inspired by great conversations with neighbors and community members I have met who agree that it is vitally important for our public schools, and those who lead them, to remain above the political divides that have become part of everyday life. And the reason is simple: in public schools we do a miraculous thing – we open the doors wide and welcome every child. Then we commit to every child that we will provide the tools necessary to travel through their K-12 education successfully on the road to healthy adulthood and responsible citizenship.
I am grateful for the endorsement of former Elm Grove Village President Neil Palmer and others who agree that our community and our schools are inextricably connected, and that those who guide our schools should lead with mutual trust and respect, in a nonpartisan way, even when that means standing up to the distractions of those outside our community who might seek to divide us. You can read what people had to say in the letters to the editor of the April edition of the Elm Grove News-Independent below.
The Elmbrook community has the best public school system in the state of Wisconsin for the fifth year in a row. Those educating our children and leading our district are award winners year after year. We are the district that other communities look to as an example of excellence across the board. And that excellence drives not just our children’s success, but our property values, our affordable taxes, and the vibrance of our community. Elmbrook leadership has shown how to steward our resources, solve our problems, and work together guided by what is best for kids.
My interest in maintaining and supporting our public schools has been a life-long passion, not a sudden or single-issue flight of fancy. I do not play winner/loser in the political arena, because when we have great public schools, we all win.
As we come down to the last days of the campaign for two open seats on the Elmbrook School Board, I ask for your vote for the Elmbrook At-Large seat, and I promise you what I have promised throughout this race - that I will remain an independent thinker, I will do my homework on the issues, and I will always be pro-public schools. I will take a fact-based approach to decision making and come to this work prepared by decades of experience as an involved Elmbrook parent, professional educator, and community advocate.
In addition, I humbly ask that you cast your vote in the Elmbrook School Board Area IV race for incumbent Board vice president Jean Lambert, who has not only been an architect of our school district’s success but is equally committed to maintaining our excellence and working together for consistent improvement. We know how hard she has worked and will continue to work in service of public education.
Please vote on or before April 2.
